The content is split into a core component that has been created for this T Level Technical Qualification in Accounting and a single occupational specialism. The core component gives a broad understanding of the accounting industry and covers the following topics:

  • Careers

  • Regulation

  • Professionalism and ethics

  • Security and risk

  • Equality, diversity and inclusion

  • Professional services

  • Fundamentals of law

  • Fundamentals of financial accounting

  • Technology

  • Data driven innovation/analytics and design thinking

  • Research skills

  • Project/change management and administration

    Your occupational specialism will allow you to develop the relevant skills in preparation for your career in the accounting sector. The content covers the following topics:

  • Producing and analysing a trial balance

  • Preparing primary financial statements

  • Analysing business performance and presenting results

  • Providing support to tax and audit functions

  • Preparing computations for payroll

    As part of this Technical Qualification, you will also enhance your broader skills in literacy and numeracy, which will be valuable in supporting progression in other areas. In addition, you will develop transferable technical and practical skills in communication (working with colleagues, customers, and clients), research and project work, providing you with an opportunity to demonstrate your reflective practice by suggesting alternative approaches to a problem.
  • Entry requirements

    5 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and Maths and/or a relevant Level 2 qualification at merit or above. Students with 4 x GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade A- C) including English and maths should apply and will be interviewed.

  • Who is the course for?

    This Technical Qualification is for students aged 16-19 and is ideal if you are intending to progress directly to further studies in accountancy or payroll, to an accountancy related apprenticeship, or to employment within the accountancy or payroll sector in roles such as an Assistant Accountant, Payroll Junior or Payroll Clerk.

  • Study methods

    Through a mixture of lectures, discussions, group and pair work, practical demonstrations, role play and work experience. You will also be expected to undertake a significant amount of independent study outside of timetabled classes. You will also undertake 9 WEEKS (45 days) minimum working with an employer on an industry placement.

  • How is the course assessed?

    The core component will be assessed by two exams and an employer set project.

  • Where Next – Job Opportunities

    Achieving this Technical Qualification will provide several progression options. These include: Skilled employment:

    • Accountancy or payroll sector roles such as Assistant Accountant, Payroll Junior or Payroll Clerk.

      A Level 3 Apprenticeship in:

    • Assistant Accountant

    • Payroll Administrator

      Higher level study:

    • Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ).

      Like T Levels, HTQs are developed in consultation with employers. They are qualifications at levels 4 and 5 and prepare you for occupations at these levels. Degree related programmes:

    • Accounting and Finance

    • Banking

    • Business Studies

    • Management

      As one of the renowned FAME subjects (Finance, Accounting, Management, Economics), a degree in accounting will set you up with a flexible and potentially lucrative career.
  • Where Next – Further Studies

    You could progress onto an apprenticeship, Higher Education as this course carries UCAS points, or employment. The occupational specialism is assessed by a project that is created in conjunction with employers.
