  • Entry requirements

    Please be advised that to be eligible for this course you would need to already have completed the Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) or have had experience working in a garage (your knowledge and experience will be assessed during the interview). If the tutor does not feel that you are at the right level for this course, he will offer you the Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance for which there are no pre-requisite qualifications required but expect candidates to have good level of English and basic computer skills.

  • Who is the course for?

    This qualification will allow learners to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and career progression in the automotive industry.

  • Study methods

    Course delivery will be 50% practical and 50% theory. The intention is for most of the theory to be delivered face to face. However, the college has the right to deliver through blended learning, which may include some online learning, including Microsoft Teams classroom, LJ Create, Zoom and other online learning platforms. The Covid will govern the mode of delivery- 19 guidelines adopted by the college and may vary throughout the course.
    Suitable safety boots (steel toe cap) will be required and are a mandatory requirement to carry out practical activities in the workshop - the candidate must provide their boots.

    • The course will be delivered over 22 weeks every Monday and Tuesday 18:00 – 21:00 and in addition there will be 14 Saturdays 09:00 – 15:30. All sessions are mandatory.

    Assessment is carried out by practical assessments and multiple-choice online tests:

    • 7290-001 Level 2 Skills in Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment (Practical Assessment).
    • 7290-004 Level 2 Skills in Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices in the Automotive Environment (Practical Assessment).
    • 7290-051 Level 2 Knowledge of Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping in the Automotive Environment Maintenance (Multiple choice test).
    • 7290-054 Level 2 Knowledge of Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices Used in the Automotive Environment Maintenance (Multiple choice test).
    • 7290-101 Level 2 Skills in Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance (Practical Assessment).
    • 7290-104 Level 2 Skills in Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components (Practical Assessment).
    • 7290-151 Level 2 Knowledge of Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance and Pre-MOT Inspection (Multiple choice test).

    This is a complete cost commercial course for adults (aged 19 years of age and over), and all students pay fees - there are no concessions available, but an instalment plan will be offered to spread the cost over three terms.

    As per our fees policy: ‘Fee refunds for commercial courses will not be awarded after two weeks before the scheduled start date of the course unless the College cancels the course.’
    Certification is based upon the achievement of passing the course content and paying the fees in full.

  • Where Next – Job Opportunities

    This qualification would significantly improve your chances of entering or progressing within the motor industry, including the following roles: motor mechanic, garage receptionist, car salesman, garage trainee and parts personnel.
    Previous students have gone on to work for Cargiant, Kwikfit, Tyre and Exhaust outlets and other small motor vehicle garages.
