This course is designed for developing core fundamental skills in computer science as well as preparing for further study and a career in software engineering.

You will be learning a wide range of topics across computing and IT in order to prepare you for more specialised study.

Year 1 units:

  • Human-Computer Interaction
  • Systems Analysis And Design.

    Year 2 units:
  • Planning and Management of Computing Projects
  • Software Design and Development Project
  • The Impact of Computing
  • Object-Oriented Programming
  • Mobile Apps Development
  • Computer Networking
  • Systems Methodology.
  • Entry requirements

    5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (grade C and above), including English and Maths. Or a relevant Level 2 qualification at DM or above.

  • Who is the course for?

    This course is designed for young adults looking into learning the fundamentals of computer science, who are interested in developing/gaining knowledge and training needed to start their computer science related career paths.

  • Study methods

    This course is classroom taught, with a range of lectures, group work, presentations and workshops and a focus on projects in the second year. There is an expectation of at least 10 hours of self study in order to train skills for excellence.

    Assessment is done through a variety of assignments and exams.
