Entry requirements
Electrical Installation qualifications to Level 3 plus the 18th Edition. Although not essential, it is recommended that candidates do have at least 6 months of site experience before attempting this qualification. All candidates will require a formal interview with the tutor to assess their suitability for the course.

Who is the course for?
This qualification prepares candidates for the initial verification and periodic inspection of electrical installation work. It is aimed at practising electricians who have carried out little or no inspection and testing since qualifying (Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation and the 17th edition).
This course supersedes both the C&G 2394 and C&G 2395 combined and is recognised by the NICEIC, Napit, Elecsa, and the JIB, as a pre-requisite towards registering as an Approved Contractor and Qualified Electrician respectively. -
Study methods
The course will comprise of theory and practical sessions. It is up to the candidate to provide their own PPE and books.
The following personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory for all workshop sessions (you will not be permitted to attend the workshop without it):
- Safety boots
- High Viz vest
- Safety glasses
Candidates will also require the books:
- On-Site Guide (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022), 8th Edition (ISBN 9781839532276 – £32 approx.).
- 18TH EDITION BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 IET WIRING REGULATIONS (ISBN 9781839532184 – £85 approx).
- Guidance Note 3: Inspection & Testing, 9th Edition (ISBN: 9781839532368 Approx: £37)

How is the course assessed?
Unit 2391-052: 2 hour 60 question open book multiple choice exam following the end of the course.
Written, 4-item, open book question paper to be completed following the end of the course.
Unit 2391-502: (4 hr Practical Assessment session) on one Saturday following the end of the course (within 2 weeks), which will include:- A 2.5 Hour practical test, including visual photographs, to carry out full Initial verification on given circuits and periodic test on remaining circuits
- Classification of two introduced faults (test rig).
- A 2.5 Hour practical test, including visual photographs, to carry out full Initial verification on given circuits and periodic test on remaining circuits

- This is an “Intensive Learning Programme” that requires 90% - 100% attendance.
- Candidates that they must put in approximately 30 to 40 hours outside of their college hours to succeed on this course.
- There are a number of exams and assessments throughout the course – candidates will be given a Maximum of 3 opportunities to resit each exam/assessment. Failure to pass/show up for these 3 resit dates will result in the candidate failing the entire course.
- In order to achieve the qualification, candidates must pass all elements of the course within the current academic year, which ends on Saturday 15 July 2023 – there will be no opportunity for any resits/resubmissions after this date. However, serious personal issues that arise that may adversely affect attendance and consequently completion of the course - these will be considered on a case by case basis.
- This is a full cost commercial course and all students pay fees, no concessions are available.
‘Fee refunds for commercial courses will not be awarded after two weeks before the scheduled start date of
the course, unless the course is cancelled by the College.’ - Certification is based upon the achievement of the passing the course content and paying the fees in full.
