Hair and Beauty students at Uxbridge College pulled out all the stops with their technical and creative skills to create sensational looks for their World of Books catwalk show.
Colourful characters from Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and CS Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia, and scenes from films including The Addams Family and The Hunger Games, also inspired the students’ work.
The annual show was held for the first time in the remodelled theatre at the College’s Hayes campus, which was completely updated as part of a £9m redevelopment across both the Hayes and Uxbridge campuses.
The event included trainees on Level 2 and Level 3 NVQ courses in Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, and Theatrical Special Effects Hair and Make-up. Students on performing arts and catering courses also took part, putting on opening musical theatre performances and providing interval refreshments.
The night was sponsored by Dennis Williams and Goldwell, with an audience of the students’ friends and family.
Sarah Steadman, Section Manager for Hairdressing, who organised the show, said: “Students did a brilliant job, putting all the skills they’d learned at College into practice, and in many cases pushing themselves that bit further as well. They showed an incredibly high level of professionalism both in preparations for the event, which lasted a number of weeks, and on the night too. The show was a great opportunity for students to gain experience to take into their future studies or the workplace, and I’m extremely proud of them all.”
