Uxbridge College students were recognised for their performance in the regional finals of the Debating Matters competition.
The College won a year's subscription for Hodder Education Resources and each of the four students who took part received an individual prize.
The students took part in the regional finals held at the Barbican Centre in London after winning qualifying rounds of the tournament in November. During the regional finals, Uxbridge College won two rounds of debates against competing schools, one on the question of censoring art, and another on whether compulsory voting should be introduced in the UK.
The final result was close with an audience vote in favour of Uxbridge College and a split decision amongst the judges.
Laraine Smith OBE said: “This is a wonderful example of the many ways in which Uxbridge College supports students to develop and achieve beyond and above their formal qualifications. I would like to congratulate every student who took part in the Debating Matters competition – I feel sure they have gained some unique and valuable skills which will support them whatever they choose to do in the future.”
Suba Dickerson, Information and Learning Resource Manager at Uxbridge College, said: “With the high level of competition in this national event, it is an excellent achievement for Uxbridge College to have won the Regional Final Runners-up prize. The students’ conduct and performance was exemplary throughout this competition, and the learning package awarded is a substantial prize that will benefit others throughout the College.”
