Foundation Learning & Skills for Life

The Entry 1 Pearson BTEC Extended Certificate in Pre-Vocational Study will help the student work towards improving their skills in English and Maths at levels appropriate to the individual learner.

The student will undertake work placements which are supported by our WEX Coordinator.

Students are supported in class, at lunch and break times and on off-site activities by our team of Learning Support Assistants. We are also able to support on a 1-1 basis where required and give CSW support.

  • Entry requirements

No formal qualifications are needed but candidates must have an EHCP. You may contact us yourself or be referred by your school or a Careers Adviser.

An interview with a member of staff from the team plus a good reference from school/college is mandatory.

Students will be expected to commit to the course and display good attendance and punctuality.

  • Who is the course for?

This course is for school leavers and young adults with moderate learning difficulties and EHCP who are interested in improving their independence and work skills.

  • Study methods

Study methods include working as an individual, in pairs and small group work.

  • How is the course assessed?

Students will create a portfolio of evidence. Assessment consists of both practical and theoretical knowledge.

Practical evidence is through direct observation of the student, products or outcomes of the students’ work, such as items that have produced or worked on. Evidence can also take the form of witness statements, assessor observations or authenticated reports, records or photographs of the work or activity.

Where the students’ knowledge and understanding (and the handling of contingency situations) is not apparent from practical evidence, it will be assessed by oral questioning and/or written questions and answers and practical demonstrations.
