This course is for young adults with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC).
Development of communication and language is central to success on the course for Preparing for Adulthood.
Course tutors and support staff working with students using a total communication approach which takes into account a wide range of interaction methods from speech and signing to communicating through photos/symbols and PECS to intensive interaction.
There is a sensory and developmental curriculum with a personalised approach. The curriculum is based on a variety of assessments and a young person’s EHCP outcomes.
This course will be delivered at our new campus - Barra Hall in Hayes.
This new campus will provide a dedicated learning environment for over 60 students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and the modernised space will be open from September 2025.

Who is the course for?
This course is aimed at students aged 16-24 with high needs, offering specialised support for those with severe learning difficulties, sensory impairments, physical disabilities, and severe medical conditions. This ensures a tailored educational journey for each individual.

Study methods
This course aims to encourage independence, enhance social skills, promote safety awareness, and encourage community engagement.
Through personalised learning plans aligned with EHCP goals, students will develop essential life skills across various domains.
The curriculum includes practical activities, vocational exploration, communication development, and physical fitness routines tailored to support holistic development. -
How is the course assessed?
Learners will have a programme based on their own individual starting points and needs which is tracked and monitored in a variety of ways, including RARPA and using individual targets that are negotiated and set with learners, carers and therapists.

Students attend college four days per week.
There are links with various employers as part of the curriculum. -
Where Next – Further Studies
This course can be up to a two-year programme depending on personal development and individual needs.
Some learners will progress to other courses or into positive adult services and community provision. -
