Skills for Independence and Work 2:

  • Learners work towards Pearson BTEC E2 Cert Pre-Vocational Study
  • Learners will have the opportunity to:
    Work towards improving their English/Maths/ICT at levels appropriate to the individual learner
  • Undertake work placements which are supported by our Employment Coach.

    Students are supported in class, at lunch and break times and on off-site activities by our team of learning support assistants. We are also able to support on a 1-1 basis where required and give CSW support. Our Employment Coach will also support, before, during and after the work placements.

  • Entry requirements

    No formal qualifications are needed but candidate must have an EHCP. You may contact us yourself or be referred by your school or a Careers Adviser.
    An interview with a member of staff from the team plus a good reference from school/college is mandatory.
    Students will be expected to commit to the course and display good attendance & punctuality.

  • Who is the course for?

    Skills for Independence and Work 2: this course is for school leavers and young adults with moderate learning difficulties and EHCPs who are interested in improving their independence and work skills.

  • Study methods

    Individual, pairs and small group work.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Students will create a portfolio of evidence. Assessment consists of both practical and theoretical knowledge. Practical evidence is through direct observation of the student, products or outcomes of the students’ work, such as items that have been produced or worked on.

    Evidence can also take the form of witness statements, assessor observations or authenticated reports, records or photographs of the work or activity.

    Where the students’ knowledge and understanding (and the handling of contingency situations) is not apparent from practical evidence, it will be assessed by oral questioning and/or written questions and answers and practical demonstrations.
