Foundation Learning & Skills for Life

The qualification has an open structure which enables the development of skills such as applying for job vacancies, developing interview techniques and working within teams.

You will complete 6 out of the 18 units.

The choice of units will depend on individual needs, skill level and desired progression outcomes.

  • Entry requirements

    Student will require an Level 1 in Functional Skills English and Maths, or grade 3 at GCSE, or a relevant Level 1 qualification, such as a BTEC Level 1 Certificate/Diploma in Workskills; plus an ability to operate at Level 1 in either English or Maths.

  • Who is the course for?

    This course is aimed at 16-18-year olds as well as learners aged 19+ who may be eligible for funding if they have an EHCP.

  • Study methods

    Study methods include lectures, practical, workshops and research.

  • How is the course assessed?

    Candidates have to collect a portfolio of evidence.

    Assessment consists of both performance and knowledge evidence.

    Performance evidence is through direct observation of the candidate, products or outcomes of the candidate’s work, such as items that have produced or worked on. Evidence can also take the form of witness statements, assessor observations or authenticated reports, records or photographs of the work or activity.

    Candidates should be capable of combining the various features and techniques to be successful in the assessment.

    Should you decide to combine further study with employment, you will be eligible for an apprenticeship.

  • Where Next – Further Studies

    Upon successful completion of your programme, you will be eligible to progress onto a Level 3 qualification.
